I have just aquired a 1957 Evinrude 18HP motor from my father. He says he hasn't had it running in a couple of years. I tried getting her to start up but with no success. When I try to pull start it, it is pretty stiff, and it's hard to get a good pull. I cleaned up everything before hand. Any sugestions on how to get it started?

HOw does it turn with the sparkplugs removed?? Add some oil to the cylinders first!

Pull sparkplugs out, add about 1:OZ marvel mistery oil to each cylinder, put sparkplugs back in only fingure tight and let it sit overnight. Remove sparkplugs and pull starter rope and see if has loosened up. (Hint) try and make sure that the spark plugs are heading straight up in the air when you let it sit overnight, that way the oil can aid if the rings are expanded and dry in the cylinders! Good luck.
