I was checking the shore power panel on my boat tonight and I wanted to see if the reverse polarity warning light was working.
It is a 120VAC neon light that is used for the warning light like this one http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062374
My question is.
Should I be able to take my VOM and connect to each terminal of this neon warning light and see continuity like I would see with a incandescent bulb?
Or beings it is a neon light would there be no continuity as there is no filiment in the neon bulb?

So how would I check this light to see if it is operational?
Thanks

Re: 120VAC neon polarity indicatior light.

A neon bulb is just a couple of posts in a glass cylinder fillled with neon. . so, no, theres NO DC resistance with a VOM. I could go on, but the easy way to test them is to apply 120 VAC from the wall socket. Be carefull on how you do that. Im serious! dont want to hear of a dead boater electrocuited.
