Hi there, just purchased boat. It's a 1978 silverline nantucket, with a 3.8l i/o. Seller told me the stringers were soft.Any easy fix for holding down motor mounts? Was thinking of using some angle iron and hopfully finding something solid to bolt into.New to the boating world.Any advise would be greatly appriciated.

Sounds like you've got a rotted boat with a very obsolete power plant. Does it run well? If the motor or drive are going to require any $$$ I'd recommend you stop and consider whether it's worth pursuing. Any rotted wood needs to be removed and replaced with new wood that is glassed to the hull.

The motor runs very well.Noticed some gear oil pooling up down by the prop after running,Guessing it's the carrier bearing oil seal? Want to get summer out of it,but ya if i'm going to spend a small fortune forget it.Thanks for the imput.
