Putting the torsional damper on my 4.3. The manual indicates to use a tool to push it on to avoid damaging the damper. Can it also be installed by tapping the center portion with a rubber mallet?

Hmmm, Kent sells it for $360. Cheaper to pay an hour labor for this job.

I hear auto zone lets you borrow/rent tools. It's not a marine tool, it's used on all Chevy engines.

torsional damper = harmonic balancer, you can use a longer bolt with the same thread size and some spacers , reducing the spacers to draw the balancer back in place, then use the original bolt .

I didn't want to pull on it without having the threads engaged a half inch or so. Trouble is finding a bolt with 3"-4" of thread. Most long bolts are only threaded for an inch or so. Too bad my puller has a larger diameter threaded rod.
