Ok thats what I was thinking. thanks. my concern was the shaft being shorter than the transom. Is this not an issue at all, or is it not ideal but will be ok?

General rule is, the cavitation plate should be even, to 1 inch above the bottom of the boat. More info on motor, and boat, would be more helpful also.

Transoms are measured vertical, not following the slope. Following the slope adds a bit. Furthermore, the standards were set way back many moons ago when boats were made of wood, with keels. Back then, the motor had to run deeper. The motors were also made longer to get them deep enough in the water. Boats are now built with higher transoms, and 16" + is not unusual. Long story made short (pun), is you are fine for a short shaft motor.
