I have a Johnson TD 20. The serial number on the powerhead is 69707. The numbers listed for the 1946 through 1949 TD outboards all have six digits. The recoil cover has TD 300493 J inside. I am curious as to the discrepancy. I have had this motor for over 30 years. It hasn't been started for 30 years. I thought the gears were stripped, but I just discovered that the shear pin is broken. I would appreciate suggestions for cleaning the fuel system and tank ( products and procedure ). The compression seems a bit lower on one cylinder, most of the paint is gone and the lower engine cowling is missing. I would like to get this old girl back on the water . It belonged to Len Thompson, the famous fishing spoon producer, who was also my mother-in-law's cousin. Any advice on restoration would be helpful. Thanks.
