Hey there, I'm a newbie to this outboard stuff. I just bought a 14ft aluminum boat with a 1987 25 hp Mariner tiller (2 stroke, manual start). I have some problem with starting this outboard. I took the boat out on the water to test it out. I flip the switch to run, squeeze the primer bulb (until it got hard), and pull the choke (in & out 3-5 times) and left the choke out. I pull the starting rope 5-6 time, and no start (couple attempts). I replace the spark plugs and does have a strong sparks. I spray some 50:1 fuel in the carb, and pull the starting rope and the engine started for couple seconds then shut off (will NOT stay running). If I constantly spray fuel in the carb the engine will stay running until I stop spraying fuel in the carb. My question is, 1. is there a right procedure to start these outboard engine? 2. fuel pump or carb problems??? I don't want to bring it in the shop if there was something simple that I didn't do or something I did wrong to get it started and stay running. Please help, Thanks...
