I have a 02 Yamaha 60HP 4 stroke and the tilt mechanism pump seem to be sucking air when it gets near the end of its stroke, the motor moves very slow then. How do I go about checking the oil in the tilt unit and what type of oil does it use?

Thanks

Found the answer to my questions. Thanks anyway

Checking the level is easy raise motor all way up. Pull 17mm bolt on resevoir fill till it comes out. Mine is 90hp but should not be to different. I used ATF dexron 3 seems fine. Yamaha makes there own tilt and trim fluid if you want to go hassle of finding it. If it's really empty then remove manual release valve with screw driver go around 2 to 3 turns clockwise be ready because the motor will drop, maybe do it with motor down for saftey. Then you can manual raise the motor by hand all way up then slowly down do it five times and maybe check fluid level. You might need some new seals and that would be different post.
