I have a 1966 GM inline 6, 250ci, 160hp. Pre-alpha dirve. Last season the front of the motor started squeling real bad (bad bearing)..I changed the water pump and the squeling stopped. The pump that was in it was automotive, so I replaced it with a marine grade pump. I did winterize it but the boat set most of the winter. I am in south Texas so it never really got cold anyway.
However,
This season, after the motor is running for a few minutes it does the same thing. Not as loud as it was before the first water pump replacement. Is it normal for a less than one year old marine grade water pump bearing to start squeling again this early on? Maybe its another bearing? Maybe a front engine bearing or something? But it does sound like its coming from the pump.
My question: Is there any way to run a lubricant through the water system? The is a salt water boat. Is there something out there that you can hook up to the muffs maybe, that can introduce some type of lubricant to the water intake stream?
Thanks
