Has increased in number of times over last couple of years, and really bad now.

1. Starts fine
2. Purrs at high speed
3. At idle, low speed, and traliering, though not all the time, engine dies
4. It always starts right back up with no problems
5. New sparks plugs and can of SeaFoam run through about 7 gallons of gas. No
improvement.
6. Put a in-line filter about 4 years ago and replace filters often (minimum once a year)

Also, is there a fuel filter around the motor inside callan(?) on these?

Thank you for your help.

When was the last time the carbs were cleaned?

Carbs have never been cleaned.

Do you think this is something a novice can do?

You will want an OMC service manual. www.marineengine.com has them in stock. Do not waste your money on a third party service manual they are useless. Doing the carbs are fairly easy if you are mechanically inclined and are not afraid to get a little dirty. You can get the carb kits and cleaner from your local dealer.
