I just picked up thos motor and mounted it on my boat. The question is how do I release the locking clasps from the trim bar? They are in the locked position and will not grab the bar. Thanks for your help!

The clamps are only engaged (Down in the locked position) when the engine is in reverse. In neutral and forward they are in the up position.

Do you hae power trim/tilt? If so, then you don't really need to have the tilt pin installed, and without the pin, there is nothing for the clamps to grab.

No power trim. So I need to figure out how to get them open.

I think I figured it out. When its in forward it is released. In neutral and reverse its engaged. I think the shift cable needs to be adjusted. That being said what is the correct procedure?k

Locked in neutral and reverse is normal. Release in fwd is normal.
