Seems my water cooled rectifyer is bad, did the tach thing and the tach works on the yellow wire. Does the flywheel need to be removed to switch this out?

Don't know about a 115 hp but on a 150 hp the flywheel must come off; the rectifier sticks down too far in the engine not to come out.

Barrrj.

I have just done the same thing on my 1989 Johnson 110.

What year is your motor?

When you take your rectifier off, can you please take photos of the top of the water cavity and forward me these photos - either on this thread or via PM.

I need to know what holes have been desgned into the block in this area.

I have a 1995 115 hp ocean runner and i replaced the rectifier in my motor, and you dont not have to take the flywheel off...not even close!!!! on my motor the flywheel is covered with the optical timing stuff... all i had to take off was a few plastic covers...

they make 115 hp for many many years, they change over the years and even then they make different style 115s in sonme years...you really need to be more specific when you ask a question about your motor...model number at least!

good luck

Yeah a year would help. I had to do it on my '97 115 last year and the flywheel has to come off, not other possible way to do it, the flywheel sits over half of it. The flywheel was not fun at all to get off either, hopefully yours will be easier, if you do have to take it off that is.

not only the year...but the model number!!

they made a 97 115 like mine that you dont have to take the flywheel off!!!

your motor is a crossflow i imagine....

looking at the schematic , and knowing it isnt an eagle block looper, it certainly appears youd have to remove the flywheel to access those rectifier bolts and lift it up and out.

good luck

Thanks bob, i was pretty sure. Do you need a special puller for the flywheel ?
