raw water circulation

Hi.
I remounted a water strainer that had fallen. Everything worked until I remounted it. Now there is no water circulation. In the mounting process, I moved the strainer, with hose attached about a foot higher so I could get at the mounting bracket. No hoses were kinked or split in the process. Any ideas?

Strainers and pumps work best if you can put them so gravity will let the water flow to them. If you have an air pocket or even a small air leak they will not prime.

Ayuh,... I agree with Lyle,... Ya moved it to high...

Now it's gotta siphon, instead of a flooded inlet...

the strainer should be mounted BELOW the water line so when you take the cap off, water will flood into it and eventaully spill over into the bilge

A gravity fed pump can be badly warn, groves in the end plate, impeller 5 years old, hard as a rock with a chunk off of one blade, several pin hole leaks and still pump more water than you need.

A perfect pump that has to fill a sea strainer can have one very small leak that will pass air but not water will have a very hard time priming. It will start dry each time.
