1978 mercury 1150 shoots gas out of top carberator and runs wide open until it floods itself out

i replaced floats but still does it

yes if i unhook the gas it runs high idle then runs normal until its out of gas

would it be the carb that shoots the gas out that has the problem

Why did you replace the floats? Was there a problem and you thought that was it? Did you do anything else to the carb when you had it apart?

the float had cracks and was stuck so i thought that was the problem

check your linkage. and the butterfly in the carb to make sure it,s closing all the way.

when u start it it runs wide open then it starts to shoot gas out of the top carb then it seems as though it floods out and when you pump the ball to long it shoots gas out of the top carb also

You aren't answering questions. Did you properly ADJUST the foat. I can almost guarantee it would not be correct out of the box. I shouldn't have to ask, but did you make sure the inlet needle was in place when you reassembled the carb? The problem is that the float is not shutting off the fuel flow. Either the float is installed wrong or not adjusted correctly, or the inlest needle is missing or installed wrong.
