I am replacing the 350 in a boat with a omc 800 outdrive a 1986. The rebuilt engine has a 2 pc rear main seal and appeared indentical to the old one except for the starter mounting bolt holes. The old block had the inline holes where as the replacement has staggered holes. Can i just switch to the staggered starter or will I have to make a flywheel change also?

Just change the starter, check engagement before installing engine! should be the same.

I Think you'll find the Straight Accross bolts are for the 12" Flywheel......<br />And the Stagger Pattern bolts are for the 14" Flywheel...........

Just wanted to let you know Bondo was right, there are different flywheels,12"&14" for the different blocks. You must change it for the starter to engage at all. Thanks!
