Hey everyone,
I have a 1972 Merc 200 20 hp 2 stroke outboard that was running great, but then it just died and would not start again. as we were using the electric motor to get back we noticed that smoke was coming out from under the cover. We removed the cover and noticed that the smoke seemed to be coming fron the under side of the stator, and we had melted some plastic from the underside of it. First off I do not know alot about boat engines, but I was told that it is possiable that it could have failed due to the water pump not working, has anyone had this happen to them? I dont have alot of cash to repair the problem, so I would like to try to repair myself. any direction would be great!!
