how can i find out age of my motor it is mercury .it says 500 on it and 50Hp its 4 cy

I bought engine i just do not know the age they told me its around 1983 its mercury 500 and 50 hp 4 cylinder 2 stroke...I just would like to know what manual i need to by for this too ,thanks for help

If it says 500, then it's pre 1979

When You find the serial Number. Buy an OEM MERC service repair manual.
