I bought a new diode because my engine keeps going inot SLOW mode after it sets for a while. I think the Diode is bad, I have changed the powerpack, spark pluf wires, both temp sensors, I cant find any wires grounding so I am thijking its the $12 diode causing the issue but I cant find it in the harness.

I took some photos, hoping someone has chnaged theirs or knows where the diode is before I open all the shrink wrapped wires.

Help please... I want to get her in the water this week.

Thanks in advance.

Measure 5 1/2 " from the edge of the big red connector on the mtr wiring harness and open the harness there. It will be attached to tan wires.

The only tan wires in the harnessa are these ones and they connect to each other. Is that correct. The diode is in between the tan wires?

I wrote in my manual a while back, "diode located 1 1/2 inches from cannon plug."
Keep digging, its in there.:)

I got my info from an OMC service bulletin. You don't count the cannon plug in your measurement. Just from the edge of it where it goes into the harness.

What manual is this sir? Can you send it to me please.
Are you saying one side of the diode has wires that are white and the other side has wires that are tan

You can ohms test the diode to see
if it is working
It should only have conninuity in only
one direction

Do you have the OMC service manual. If you don't you can order it from www.marineengine.com

You don't remove it for the test, it stays hooked
up in the harness while testing.

Yes that is it.
From the big red plug follow the tan wire and if
there are no connectors till the tan wires your holding
with the heat shrink then it's probably inside it.

You said it's going into slow?
Over 2000 RPM shakes real hard ?

Follow these instructions, I would recommend wherever you see "ohmeter" in testing the diode in the directions, use you diode test on your multimeter.

Here is the location of the diode your looking for

That's the diode test for the shift.
I think he's looking for the brown
wire warning system diode?

I would check both switch operation and diode though, I think that the shift switch cuts 3 cylinders which can be mistaken for S.L.O.W.

Exactly, till she warms up then she runs like a champ. Thats why i figured it was the temperature sensors. I had to dig out the starboard sensor. I havent ran the engine yet, it runs fine at home, its in the water aftr it ran for a while then I stopped and started it again that I had the issue. Someone said it might be that diode so I wanted to just fix everything it could possibly be.

If you have not found the diode yet. It has 3 tan wires in and 3 tan wires out You had your finger on it in the third photo. All you have to do is disconnect the tan wire from the 2 temp sensors for a test, still have the problem disconnect the shift switch. Still have the problem time for ignition testing with peakreading meter. Photos take me longer,

Re: HELP finding my Diode on my 1993 150HP 60 degree Looper Ocean Pro

It can go into slow from a bad temp switch,
Going into slow from a different warning system
then it may be a bad diode.
Low oil, no oil, fuel vacume switch or
a ground returning from warning horn.
And as stated in reply #17 don't rule out the shift switch.
but a bad shift switch won't make it shake at 2000 RPM
It will just run like a dog.
