I have a 87 i believe it is.. 75 hp motor... took tboat over to lake and it ran fine for about 5-7 min... then it went from higher rpm to low rpm sound of the mtr..and slowed down to about 15 mph .......it was not cutting out. when you would try to take off it was like the motor was bogged down.... i have checked fuel lines and checked filter.... the boat will rev up fine in neutral and idle fine.... i am thinkin it may be an ignition coil goin bad.... i do not kno how to test the coils...i ohms them out while disconnected but all measure same value i hav a fluke multimeter......i am thinkin bout ordering ignition coil but that would be a good chunk of change to spend and that not be the problem

Spend the money and lose the headache, take it to the best marine service center you can find and let them save you the trouble and some wasted c.ash and time trying to figure it outt, that's what I ended up doing after I spent 200 at a low end repair shop plus another 100 in gas going back and forth . Now you can learn from my mistakes, Almost always this problem you have is a carb. problem and will most likely result in a carb rebuild, good luck ,I had the same prob and that's what had to be done to fix mine. I got an 85 Mercury 75 hp and it cost me 400 to rebuild the carbs.
