Evinrude 150 luggs

I just bought a tracker 18ft bass boat with a 150 evinrude and it luggs on takeoff out of the hole when it finally does get up on plane it will tune out to about 5000 rpms when it warms up it has a rough idle sometimes stalls.can anybody help

1. Get the engine running right. I suspect you need, at minimum, carb rebuilds.

2. Once running right, you may be overpropped (common on bass blasters). The engine needs to turn at least 5500 at wide open to perform correctly.

Of course, all of that is moot if you have a weak cylinder. Do a compression check before you stick $1.00 into that engine.

Maybe try a different compression gauge? Then a GOOD decarb.

The normal compression on a 150 will depend on the year of the engine and what type the engine is and what heads are on the block. OMC made both 90 degree crossflow and 60 degree looper engines in the 150 size. Please let us know what model type and year engine you are dealing with.

its a 95 model and as far as i no kno its a 60 degree looper

As long as all readings are within 10lbs or 10% you can assume compression is good, would still recommend a good decarb but the chances of all cylinders being low in equal amounts is almost nil.

when you overhall a moter do you hav to machine the heads?
