on 89 Sea Ray Bowrider the deck has several soft spots and I know its rotten because I just had to replace the transom in it. My boat repair guy said he would replace the whole deck and stringers for around 1500, is it worth it to let him do it for that price than me learning to fiberglass and get all the materials? whats your take, also is there such a thing as prefab stringers?

I have lots of woodworking skills but never touched fiberglass and im not sure I want to mess with it.

also attached are some before and after of the transom repair

Thanks in advance.

Did your boat repair guy do the transom? Cuz that looks real good. $1500 is actually way cheap for deck and stringers. If you knew it was going to be quality work, it would be a no-brainer at that price. I'd be checking in on the progress frequently to make sure everything was being properly sealed and glassed. Good luck.

Welcome to iboats Dry Dock.

The worth it is solely up to you, but $1,500.00 doesn't sound bad to me. Some questions do come to mind thought.

How long ago was the transom done?
Was the deck and stringers not checked out then?

In answer to your stinger question, yes there are prefabed stringer available, however, I always just make new ones myself...

Then for $1,500.00 tell him to have at it.....I wouldn't do it for that.
