1979 115 evinrude, replaced power trim motor, but engine wont go up ,

i just replaced my power trim motor because it had ceased, the motor runs in both switch positions but will not raise the engine, when i lift it manually the engine stays up and when i tilt down it works great but once again when i go to tilt up the motor just runs and the engine wont tilt up. do i need to bleed the system? and if i do. How? any advice will be appreciated.

Is the system full of trim fluid? There is a fill screw on the side of the reservoir. Fill up to the level of that screw hole. Operate the trim up and down a few times-the system will self bleed. Check the trim fluid level again and refill. Then re-bleed. Repeat that process till the oil level stabilizes.

When filling, the engine must be in the extreme up position, then fill the reservoir to overflowing.
