Hey guys

Found a guy near me who has a 1976 Evinrude 55HP 55763E .
My motor I have now is a 1977 Evinrude 55HP 55773D

I looked at the schematics and all look the same. And I wanted to know if and how many parts will be interchangable and what would be diffrent about these two engines.

Did these motors come with diffrent shaft lenghts? Because I wanted to use the whole mid section part.

Plus have a array of back up items (Carbs/electrics / ect)

Thanks again,
DamianJP

I have the 76 myself. There is actually not as much similar as you may think. Can't think off hand what will work and what wont, but go to a site like marineengine.com, and compare part numbers.

Thank You High Trim

Okay will do. I notice in my OEM Service manual for my 77' 55hp there are two model numbers.

55772D which is standard lenght ( Im guessing a 15" shaft)
55773D (one I have) which says 5" longer shaft ( Im guessing a 20" shaft)

Now the motor Im looking at is a
55673E

There are 3 other motors in this group.
55642E
55643E
55672E

Which motor do you have and what shaft length do you have?
My guess is that the model numbers with the "2" in them are all standard lenght (15" shaft).
And the model numbers with "3" in them are the 5" longer versions (20" shaft).

Well Im gonna go hit the part #'s up now and see what is what. Again thank you for your help and let me know what model number you have and what length of shaft to see if Im right with my hunch.

ThankYou,
DamianJP :D

Heres what I do to cross reference go to http://search.boats.net/?r=t&q=55772D&x=19&y=13 this is the first motor you mention, now start taking different parts and enter there part# in the search line up top,on the right you'll see what different motors that part fits on.Take your time and search mulitiple parts you want to use and see if the motor you want the parts on is listed at the right.

Hey Dew !!

Ive been doing it the hard way it seems. Had two browser windows opened next each other, in Crowley Marine with the 76' at one side and the 77' at the other. Seems like all the parts that I need right now match, which is totally awesome . :)

Gonna continue the search using your easier method, thank you for the time saving tip!

Now I hate to bring up another subject but it's confusing me abit.
Im hearing that hydro-electric shift ended in 1976. Other people saying 72'-73' was the end. Whats the history behind this hydro-shift stuff?

OMC quit messing around with the electric shift in 73. The lower unit in 76 used the shift rod.
