volvo penta 8.1 won't rev up

I have a 8.1 volvo penta in my ebbtide mystique and went to put it in the water today and the boat will idle but wont rev up. It sounds like its starving for fuel. I was going to replace the plugs and fuel filter tomm and see if that helps . Any suggestions? thanks

The motor is a 2001 Volvo 496 penta 8.1 gi with bravo 2 outdrive and has been winterized. Today was the first time it's been started since last boat season.

Going to need either a Full Model number or a serial number of your engine, not the year. Year means nothing in marine engines.

Are you sure you have a Volvo engine and a Mercruiser drive ???? Do you have any pictures of your outdrive you could post. Volvo does not use Mercruiser drives.
