i scored a free system...helm, cable etc...

its an 11 ft cable.

question, my 54 feathercraft steers on the left side like a car.....there is not enough cable to wrap to the right and get to the transom

however going to the left its a perfect fit.

will it steer bacwards? or can i just rig the linkage in the back different?

just curious, and dont have the motor on it currently to do a mock up

Yes, it will steer arse about.....

Honestly, youd be better off just buying the correct length cable and routing it the way its meant to be, look at it this way, you scored a free helm :D

In the old days teleflex helms could be routed "backwards" in he helm. I know because I have done it accidently.
I agree with mark, cables are not cheap but the cost is offset by the free helm. Go ahead and get the right one and route it correctly.

You can flip a RACK upside down to switch it but you're screwed with a rotary.
