Buddy and I just picked up a 89 Wellcraft Eclipse 223 with a 5.7 for a steal
Boat is in great shape other then a dull finish.
Block is most likely cracked, due to poor winterizing or none what so ever. Know the owner and basically he blew it and never did it or tried doing it too late the winter before last. He took it out last spring and soon enough water in the fresh oil, smoking, shop said cracked block and gave him a huge figure..... So he just had them change the oil and winterize and he took home and it sat all year until finally he said.....
"Just take it!!" WE DID!
Most likely just going to swap in a rebuilt 280-300hp 5.7 and not even mess with trying to repair or troubleshot the old engine.
Couple of questions first....
1. Is there something else it could be that I should check? We are going to run it once we get our time and weather to match. Batteries need charged, gas changed and such! We will see if it gets any water, if it does going to pop the intake and check the lifter valley for cracks, it's gotta come off for the new engine anyways
2. Where is a place with really good results and low failures to to get a nice replacement engine....? Have already checked out http://www.rapidomarine.com/default.aspx and http://www.usenginesinc.com/index.html
3. I am sure a new 280-300hp engine will kill the old drive, what are the options out there to swap to a newer or stronger model and what if any mods will need to be done to make it adapt?
Thanks for letting me pick your minds
