Idle question

I have a 1994 3.0 mercruiser . I think the idle speed is to high where should it be ? mine is at 900 -1000 rmps

600 to 800 rpm is a good range to keep the clunk down when shifting gears you just have to be carefull to adjust it so that it does not stall when your docking because if you get to low it will stall at the worst time<br /><br />tommays

Book says 650+/-50 rpm in forward gear.

achris. "in forward gear" ?? I thought idle must your prop is not turning and the engine is just turning over with no gear engage. I have a mercruiser and it idle at about 550 to about 600 rmp after the engine is warm up.

Set the idle as low as you can. Helps with low speed manuevering. I keep mine at about 500 RPMs.
