I am looking into a 1990 wellcraft 187 eclipse with a V6. I wanted to make sure it was not to heavy for my ford escape. I have a 05 with a V6 and can tow up to 3000lbs. I looked at the nada on it and it says 2500 but I did not know how accurate it was.

Re: Towing question on 1990 wellcraft 187 eclipse weight

I'd venture to say you will be beyond your tow capacity. Those weights come from the manufacturers info and are generally dry weights. Which means no fuel or gear is included. You also have to add in the weight of the trailer.
Assuming 500# for the trailer, 200# for a tank of fuel and another 200- 300# for gear, you are over by 500#. That 20% overage is substantial IMHO. Especially if the trailer does not have brakes, which most 3000# rated trailers don't.
