Hello,
The ground wire in my remote control wiring harness shorted out and melted all the insulation on it and nearby wires destroying most of the harness. My question is that since i am looking to replace it is it possible to use an OMC outboard extension cable like this one...

instead of purchasing a 20' harness? it will need to have the same color wires in order for me to install it and just wondering if anyone has attempted this, and is knows that the wires are color coded inside. My control box is within 10' so this would save me quite a few bucs! The motor is a 1978 85 evinrude which uses the "Big Red Plug"
thanks for your help!
