today was my first time on the water this season. cranked the boat at the house. cranked first time flawlessly. go to the lake put in, and started heading out, when it was time to get the boat on plane i pushed down and the boat didnt go anywhere. it revved to about 5k and still no where. the propeller was spinning and chopping the water up but still no where. at the end of last season i stripped the gears in the foot and bought a used one off of craigslist. took the boat to basspro and they installed the new foot. said it checked out fine and said it was in good condition. could this possibly be stripped gears in my foot? if not what else could be the problem?:confused::confused:

I would take it back to bass pro and let them figure it OUT.

Most likely the same stump that got the old foot also got the hub in the prop.

Maybe there was nothing wrong with the LU you took off.Possibly the prop hub in the first place?

it seems like the gears are stripped because even when in gear, you can spin the prop and kind of hear the gears rubbing in an awkward way. tomorrow im just going to drop it off at basspro and say figure it out

In forward gear, you should be able to rotate the prop one way with a ratchet sound. In reverse, it should rotate only a little bit each way till the lash is taken up.

The clutches in the LU are dog clutches, like you would find on a big winch. Crude, but effective. The shock of clutching is taken up by the rubber hub in the prop, which will also usually sacrificially absorb the impact of a stump hit if it's somewhat reasonable. The rubber hub is an expendable, replaceable part.

If you can't understand how it works, take it to someone who does.

hope it helps

The shop will NOT be responsible for YOUR spun hub. And could/can/may/will charge you for their time when there is nothing wrong with the gearcase.
