I just recently realized the need to have ethanol safe fuel lines. I was wondering about the lines associated with the fuel pump. Should they be replaced? What other lines, gaskets or valves need to be ethanol safe? I have a 1985 30hp Johnson.

Ethanol-based fuels will deteriorate any rubber in the fuel system on earlier engines. This includes the fuel lines to the engine, the lines under the cowling and the rubber bladder in the fuel pump. The very newest fuel lines from OMC have changed: they now have a special rubber inner liner inside the hoses. You will find the prices have also changed. Stay away from any 15% ethanol-blend fuels.

Your motor was built to run on 10% Ethanol. However, it is also 26 years old. The fuel lines need to be changed just because they are old, not because of Ethanol. I believe the new super expensive stuff is to comply with the new laws concerning permeability.
