Fuel Problem

I have a "93" Johnson 88 SPL and am having some problems that seem like fuel trouble. The motor will idle and then will run as I throttle up, but all of the sudden starts losing power. If I push the choke in, the speed will come back up. I have put new carborator kits in, changed the fuel hose and connection, and made sure the tank is clean. It has been suggested it could be the fuel pump, or the power pack. Has any one experienced a problem like this? Any advice appreciated.

Re: Fuel Problem

I read posts like this lots! If it were me I'd redo the carbs yes again.I said I read this alot, then in a later post someone will state "I took it to a OB shop they did the carb and it runs fine" Gotta make sure those carbs are, as I always say cleaned twice

I agree with dew2. Also would add that the core plugs need to be removed and all passages under them clean, clean, clean.

If you don't know how to remove and install new core plugs, there are videos on youtube that help.

Re: Fuel Problem

Thanks for the tips, I actually cleaned the carbs twice before putting in the new carb kits, but unfortunately still having the same problem. Guess I'll give it another try...let me know if you come up with anymore ideas and I'll keep cleaning.

Re: Fuel Problem

first change the primer bulb with OMC brand no other, 2nd ck for fuel and or air leak, 3rd clean carbs good! use wire and run thru
every jet. If it runs and idels the pump is ok more than likely. I just went threw all this same prob and I found one carb had cracks
in the brass tubes in the bowl that calabrates fuel. but fixed that and still had probs. replaced all three carbs and runs like new.
