Re: RE Prop Pitch

OK I received my Propeller12X11 (Profile picture bigger blades than the stock propeller) the prop fits the shaft fine. I removed my 11 X 12 Pitch stock Mercury prop. No thrust washer. It has the pins with the Nut Lock clip(type). I bought a thrustwasher awaiting arrival. (Waterpuimp shipped out today after a week) I need to know the Torque on the prop nut to the thrustwasher as it has no saftey hold apperatus. Also I need the torque specs on the waterpump bolts. This is a new complete waterpump kit and I do not want to overtorque it and cause damage. 40 HP 2 cyl 2 stroke 1979? please respond with a proper Tourque

Re: RE Prop Pitch

I guess I,ll just use a stainless steel lockwasher. I do understand that the thrustwasher is locked buy the slpines on the propshaft not allowing it to spin But i don,t want to lose my prop in the gulf of mexico.

Re: RE Prop Pitch

If your setup is like mine no lock washer of that kind is needed and believe me the prop wont come off.I have included some pics.

Re: RE Prop Pitch

On your old prop does the prop spacer/washer come off or is that all one piece?

Re: RE Prop Pitch

You got me curious so I was shopping around ebay just for comparrison pics and found this for reference.Take a look at this.Somehow I am missing the spacer solution for your prop (new one).I havent come across a 13 spline spacer washer that looks like mine.Mine is however a 15 spline spacer/washer.
This one I found is like your old one with the spacer.

Re: RE Prop Pitch

wow I never thought if the thrust washer i bought off eBay wasn,t a 13 slpine, but the washer on that ebay prop is apparently the one i need. The prop descripton was 12X11 PITCH FOR SUZ/HON 35-65HP-MERC60HP The Blue ticket that was in the prop says HP Suzuki Honda 60 HP Merc MOD 402 - 500. This ticket is from a prop service so I guess it was rebushed with 13 spline shaft

Re: RE Prop Pitch

Well if that prop spacer/washer you ordered will fit and you want to use a stainless steel lock washer to hold it on might work.

Re: RE Prop Pitch

I managed to get the right prop lockwasher but the tab washer fits in side the thrustwasher but the nut hold is for 1 1/16th OD nut. My prop nut is 15/16ths OD. Anyway I bent three tabs over the thrustwasher and three tabs tucked against the nut to hold the prop for a testride today. Results is from 4800 5000 RPM to 5200 5500. 30 MPH top speed I can set the tilt to 2 positions without ventilation. or at least minor ventilation on very sharp turning. This is with the jackplate as low as I can get it. It,s tollerable. All gages are now working Tack speedo vlots gas. Sill having trouble starting may be the battery or the stater cable or the kick out thrust gear. I have to drain the oil in the lower unit as i did a total waterpump replacement, and want to make sure its sealing. The oil looked great when I took off the pnmp base but a bit low. Thanks for all the help in getting me back out there!!!! Happy boating
