Gasket sealer for water pump

The manual states to apply Mercury Perfect Seal to the small hole gasket on the water pump housing. Do you use it on both the top and bottom of the gasket or just one side? and is the permatex aviation gasket maker sufficient? This is on the alpha 1 gen 2 drive.

Bond O, do you know if it should be used on the both sides of the bottom gasket? This is a fresh water boat also. No salt water near by.

Ayuh,... Whatever trips yer trigger Ralph,...

The Gen.II waterpumps can tend to suck air, rather than water, so that, I believe is why they say to use the sealant...
