Water Pump Plate

I ordered a water pump kit for a '79 evinrude 35. the plate (Part # 66 in schematic) with the new kit has a smaller opening than the old plate. (The half-moon shaped opening) Is this ok, or do I need to use the older plate. I do not want to restrict flow.

When replacing my water pump I noticed the new kit did differ somewhat from the parts diagram. I didn't notice a difference in the size of the slot though. You may want to verify you have the correct kit.

Thanks. I did notice there was a seal on the schematic that was not in my kit, but it was not in my old pump either. I was more concerned about the difference in the plate.
