need help 1974 Johnson.

I have a 1974 Johnson. After sitting a couple of years I am trying to get it water ready. Hooked up the battery and all I get is the solenoid clicking. Starter wont engage. I am not a brilliant mechanic but I can follow directions where do I go from here.
