Can I clear coat this or is it too far gone?

I have taken some close-up shots of my finish on the boat. Can I wet sand and then spray clear coat on this to make it look like it did back in 70's or do I need to repaint my boat?

Sure you can. I would try just wetsand and buff first though. Gel coat is much thicker than paint and can be brought back pretty well.

Thanks tschmidy! I will run to the hardware store today and pick up some paper. Any hint of what grit I should start off with?

If the current clear is thin or the flakes are exposed don't sand on it, if you do the finish can start to look blotchy and uneven.

Use YD's method of spraying a cheap rattle can clear on a small part of the worst area, this will give you an idea of what a better clear will look like. You can just wipe it off with acetone after you see if you like it.

I thought the same thing, normally you can hardly tell what it is you're looking at.
