4.5 mercury intermitant spark

This motor is marked 4.5 but as i look up serial numbers for the year it was mfg. It does not jive ! The tag # is 3399968. I have replaced the point insulator, no help ! The points look good and make a test light bright ! It has a red ignition coil and the stator has 2 coils with a large condenser . I got a lot of help on a 7,5 merc from you guys (those dammed point insulators) what should i look for next ??

A year would be nice, that tag number doesn't cross.
I'm assuming you have to spark? Check all wiring for corrosion, quite common. If it has a stop switch rule it out, it may or may not be the grounding type. You could try ohming out the coil to see if it's good, google coil test, it's quite simple. If you are getting power on a test light, chances are the power side is working, may well be a bad coil.
