Got 135hp johnson on my boat, starts easy runs wll on muffs. Put it in the water and it revs just fine on the warmup leaver but put it in gear and try to drive it on the throtle and it dies out and stops at around 1500 rpm. Thought that sounded like a fuel problem (although the plugs don't look over lean) so did rebuild on the fuel pump. No change. Anyone with any thoughts on this one? Love to hear from you.

Cool, ta. all check out ok. Had a guy say maybe some sort of water flow problem that gets covered up by using muffs but on the water the pump isn't up to the job and the engine goes into "limp mode" I'd have thought it's way too old for that sort of techo. stuff but be nice to be wrong . Ideas please

Re: 1975 135hp johnson outboard

Robman,

I have the same problem with my 1976 Johnson 135. Starts and idles and neutral revs in the water but dies going into gear and will not run above 1500rpm in gear. I have cleaned the carbs, but no carb kit yet, replaced fuel lines and the compression is 120/cyl and pumps water. The plugs are wet. Will perform the timing light test this week. The motor has been sitting for 18 months. Any news on your motor?
