Fuel tank placement

So I just got done doing a total rebuild on a 1969 Cadorette. My stupid question of the day is..where do I put the 5 gal fuel tank in the boat? At the stern just below the motor or ahead towards the middle? I have a very long fuel line with bulb.

Assuming it's an OB. Usually they go under the motor splashwell. Amidship if it help you with balance would be OK considering; Ventilation, Mounting Security, Routing of fuel hose (safety) etc.
