Re: Merury 115 tranfer port drain restrictors

The design of the transfer port will cause fuel to puddle in this low area when idling as the fuel vapor condenses a little. If these where not there the engine would stumble on acceleration due to the raw fuel thrown in cylinder and fouling plug for a second or two(remember that fuel charge is atomized). The passages are restricted by the restrictor to prevent this as excess is passed to the next lower cylinder. I myself modify these as the restrictors are NLA from Merc. Missing restrictors can cause: (1) a rich condition that people overcome by leaning mixture screw on carb but this can lead to hesitation as it to lean,(2) loading up if having to idle thru a long no wake zone,(3) eratic idling in some cases. Some people say you dont need them but I totally disagree. You can seach for the restrictor mod here on Iboats

faztbullet won't the fuel puddle up more if it is restricted from running down to the next cyl and get burned as it idles?

No as we are only talking about several cc's of raw fuel/oil mix.
