1995 225hp Johnson Ocean Runner Stalling at Low RPM

I just bought a 22' WA Angler with a 1995 Johnson 225 Ocean Runner. I am having an issue with the motor stalling at low idle in neutral and in gear at low rpm in both forward and reverse. The motor actually runs awesome when throttled up at the higher Rpms. When I start up at home with the rabbit ears on the lower end the motor runs and runs in idle but for some reason stalls out in the river at low Rpm( Indian River, Melbourne, fl ). Motor does not smoke alot doesnt sneeze or cough. Again the motor stands the boat right up. someone told me to either adjust the idle or perhaps add Seafoam to clean the carbs up abit. the compression is 110 psi in all 6 cylinders and the plugs look good. I talked to the mechanic that serviced the boat before I bought and he told me he cleaned the carbs back in Dec of last year.

Yours is doing the same thing mine is doing. What did you find out? I also live in Melbourne, Fl. Every time. it runs great on rabbit ears. But put it in gear and bam problems start. I have to put it in gear and give it as much throttle before she stalls out. Forward or reverse. Must be the dang gone Indian River doing this to us.

I had a very similar problem. Basically it was my throttle advance. Underneath the flywheel you will see a ball looking thingy with a metal rod coming out of it. Make sure its in its place. It will idle all day with it being out, but once you engage the throttle it will die out on you. I know this from experience.

I brought the motor to Chuck at Eau Galle Marine and found that my horn ( alarm ) was shorted out so we replaced it with new. Also replaced fuel pump and sized up the fuel lines to 3/8". He also just adjusted the throttle and all is awesome with the motor!!! We suspect it was a slight fuel restriction but it was the alarm that was bad.
