Anyone SURE of the proper fuel mixture for my '85 force 50? I am mixing my fuel at 50:1 ratio per my clymer shop manual. and it seems to be running rich. It sat for several years before i got it. I cleaned the tank/carb/and fuel line. Starts right up and doesn't overheat, but seems to smoke alot when under acceleration. and some oil from the exhaust in the barrel im running it in. I just went to a reputable shop here and he said it may just need to be a leaner mixture (100:1)?

50-1 is the ONLY way to mix it.
Sounds like that reputable shop should be avoided if they suggest something that STUPID.J

He pulled up a repair manual that showed both 50:1 and 100:1 mixtures for that engine. It did not specify engine particulars. Anyone else hear about this?

50:1

Clean the carb, make sure you have a hot spark to both plugs, decarb the engine (see FAQ section), run the correct plugs, switch to a full synthetic to further reduce smoking.

Then learn to live with the motor, it is old old technology, really not to far from the old West Bend outboard which was its grandfather so to speak.

my boat smokes like a cigar when running on the muffs also... But when its in the water and warmed up No smoke at all... I do however run 50 to 1 mix with full synthetic 2 stroke oil.... runs great

OMC recommended 100-1 for a year or two but then went back to 50-1 ratio. While the engines ran quite well on 100-1, there just was not enough residual oil inside to prevent corrosion during storage. OMC also did a study that showed that their engines, after being run on 50-1 for a while, could be run for several hours with no oil mixed in the fuel as long as the RPM were kept below 2,000.

Most VRO systems--as I understand them will mix oil at 100-1 at idle and low speeds but enrich the mixture to 50-1 at full throttle.

Force engines, being non VRO engines require a 50-1 mixture ratio. Learn to love the smell of TCW-3 in the morning.

Thanks for all the input guys. im gonna run some seafoam through this weekend, change the plugs, switch to synthetic oil, and learn to live with the results.
