Hello,
Im a new poster and by no means a mechanic. My question is:
I am looking at a boat that has an original 1998 225 optimax on it. The lower unit and middle shaft are original. The guy I talked to about said that after the original opti had blown up twice he had completely retooled the powerhead as a 250 pro xs. My question is- is this possible? Also, do you think I may be asking for it by purchasing this motor? The guy is a merc dealer.
Thanks in advance

The Optimax is a direct injection motor. I believe the Pro XS is carbs. I would think conversion would be difficult. He may have installed a Pro Xs powerhead on the Opti midsection. That would likely work...

The ProXS is a DI motor and the XB is a FI. To tell if its a 250 look at the ECM and it will have series/hp on label and look at front air handlers as it will have a model/series/year as this is a EPA mandate. The XS series use different ECUs, air and fuel injectors andmodified porting.
