hi, My father has an older outboard chrysler motor that hasnt ran for a couple of yrs. He is 84yrs old and im not sure he knows exactly what he has he says its an '86 model but theres a tag on the side that says it was bought new in '73, its a 120hp motor and i cant find where they say they made a 120 in '73. Anyhow i believe we have the problem traced to a bad cd module, the book we have says they don't make the module any more, it says it takes a replacement part #1054,but we've had no luck with this either. If anybody has any idea it would really help.

Re: cd modules

Do you recognize these model numbers on the tag?

1206 HA-HD 120 1970-74
1207 HA-HD 120 1970-74

Re: cd modules

Older models have a tag inside the cowl.Newer has a sticker on the transom mount.
Post a few pics of the motor and the electronics.
1986 was a 125hp not a 120.

There was a 120hp produced during the mid-1970's, right.....like around 1976-1977. Then the 125hp came in from 1981-1989 and the 120hp came back from 1990-1999, if I'm not mistaken.

Re: cd modules

There was a 120Hp from 1970 to 1977. I belive that it had the distributer system but from 1974 and later it can have the mag II ign. If you have that system with distributer, CDI have a replacement CDI-box 115-3301. If it has the mag II you have a problem. That repalcement CDI-box is disconntinued at CDI, it was a R&R part but now they do not repair it.

Re: cd modules

Just something to try I had the same issues with my 70 hp . replaced the cdi box with a supposed good one no fire. I noticed on the back of the box it said 12v neg ground and I noticed it was bolted on with rubber grommets thus breaking the connection for the ground I ran a Wire from the module case to the head and it fires perfect. something to try anyhow. good luck
