I have a question concerning why my father-in-laws 90hp 2 cycle will go down when keyed but will not come up when keyed to do so. Is it in the trim switch on control handle or something else?

Re: trim switch, or not?

It could be the up solenoid. You need to check for voltage on the feed side and voltage on the side that runs to tilt motor, with someone holding the switch up you need to check for voltage on the smaller signal wire. If you have voltage on the feed and signal but not the cable going to the tilt motor then the solenoid is bad.

Just went through same problem.Process of elimination.Trim motor,Solenoid,Wiring from switch to solenoid,or the switch itself.2 simple tests on up solenoid 1st using meter to check ohms/continuity and 2nd to hotwire pos on solenoid to switch terminal on solenoid,if motor goes up solenoid is fine.Mine was the switch.Cleaned points.Works fine.
