Flushing my outboards

I just bought a boat that I keep in a saltwater wet slip. It has twin 225 Evinrude FICHT engines. If I am reading the owner's manual correctly, it seems like I can tilt the engines up so they are not in the water, and then run them with the flush hoses attached. Is this correct? I don't want to burn something out, but I do want to try and keep them flushed.

That method doesn't sound safe. Sounds like water could enter the powerhead via the exhaust ports.

When I flush my Johnny OB at the dock (saltwater), I connect the hose to the flush port, motor down, start the water flowing, start the motor and ket her run a few minutes. Now I stop the motor and leave the hose running as I trim up. When the water outlet just breaks the surface, I disconnect the hose and let her drain. I think that will get most of the important stuff.
