Okay so the other day I got my motor running (not well). I think it may be only running on 1-2 cylinders, is that even possible? The other thing is that I replaced my impeller and when I hooked the water hose to the fitting and turn the water on it is just leaking water all over. I turned the motor on and it started to overheat on the starboard side.
I did put the lower unit in a bucket of water(water level was just below the hole on the impeller housing) Dumb question. Does that part have to be below water?

Yes it's possible for your motor to run on 1 or 2 cylinders (at idle). You probably need to tune it with new points, plugs, condensers. When you run your motor in a bucket, the water level needs to be at least over the cavitiation plate (at a bare minimum). What "fitting" are you hooking the hose to?

I changed the plugs , I ordered plug wires and should get them within a week or so. Im not sure what the fitting is called but it is on the gearcase. On the water intake bypass cover plate there is a garden hose fitting. But when I turn the water on its just leaking im pretty sure out of the copper tube
