Ok I am new to this, in fact the boat in the picture is my first boat with a motor on it. Background; I got the boat basically for free I traded my 93 infiniti g20 with 222k miles on it that I had for two years and only paid $300 for it then, I traded outright title for title I know that parting the boat out would of made me 10x what I paid for the car but I needed a project, so here I am. I am doing a full cosmetic restore and know basically nothing about the out drives, I can disassemble a car and put it back together. But this I don't know if I want to attempt or not.
So I know I needed the upper gear unit and did some research and comparisons and found that from 270-280 where pretty much the same. So, I picked up a 270 upper for $180 on ebay and it is in perfect condition, no hesitation in shifting and no noise in the bearings and they are very clean. Now my questions begin with 1. how and what do I need to change the helmets over? 2. how do I get the front part of the upper gear housing that has my 2 bolt assembly off and on to the 270 upper with the 1 bolt? 3. how do I take out the female end of the u joint assembaly out of the transom? and last 4. is there anyone in the tampa bay area that will touch a volvo without it costing $5k to rebuild an upper? LOL

P.S. I have one more question, I had the out drive covered and the latest storm we had tore the cover off and rain water got into the out drive, how do you suggest I dry that up so there will be no water in my oil?
