Does anybody know how to hook up the rpm gauge. There is a grey wire and a black wire coming out of the back of the gauge I asume the black is ground but I dont know were the grey wire goes. There is also a white wire coming out of the control box and I was told to hook it up to that but nothing happened. Any info would be great thanks.

You may have to begin by identifying which tach you have. Not all of them will work on your motor. On the other hand, if it is a magneto tach, it is valuable becaue they are no longer made. You need a 6 pulse alternator tach (12 pole). Generaly, they need a purple (12V switched) wire, a grey signal wire, and a black ground wire.. Optional is another wire for nightime illumination.

Picking up from FR's comment: It's probable that the control box is already wired for a tach. I believe your control box has a loose (cut off) grey wire left inside. It is meant to be pulled through a hole between the two contro box halves on the underside. That is the signal wire for the tach. You need to find a ground and hot from under the dash to power the tach. You may have to split the control box to find out if that white wire is connected internally to that grey wire.

I took the control box apart and that white wire is connected to the grey wire in the box. As for the tac the name of it is aqua meter and the part number is moda635572. So do I hook the grey wire to the white and then to a power source and the black to a ground?

I had an aqua meter on my daughter's boat years ago. Nice tac-jeweled inside, I believe. That one only had two wires to it, which was hooked up before I bought the boat. Never had an issue with it so never got into it's connections. My guess is that you are making a correct assumption regarding it's hookup.
